Discover Cudaco. Seafood House

Walking into Cudaco. Seafood House on Folly Road feels a lot like stepping into a place locals quietly guard as their own. Sitting at 765 Folly Rd, Charleston, SC 29412, United States, this seafood spot doesn’t try to impress with flashy décor or gimmicks. Instead, it leans on what actually matters: fresh ingredients, straightforward cooking, and a menu that respects coastal tradition while still having a little fun with it.

I first stopped by after a morning at Folly Beach, sandy feet and all, and noticed how often that story comes up in reviews. People swing in after surfing, family beach days, or a long work shift, and the staff treats everyone the same. Orders move fast, portions are generous, and there’s no pressure to rush through your meal. That kind of consistency is hard to fake, and it’s one of the reasons the place keeps earning strong local feedback year after year.

The menu reads like a greatest-hits list of Lowcountry seafood. Shrimp baskets, fried oysters, crab legs, and flaky white fish dominate the board, with sides like hushpuppies and slaw rounding things out. According to NOAA Fisheries data, shrimp remains the most consumed seafood in the U.S., averaging more than 4 pounds per person annually, and it’s easy to see why when it’s handled right. Here, the shrimp arrive hot, lightly breaded, and clearly fresh, not rubbery or overcooked. One cook told me they source locally whenever seasonal supply allows, which lines up with recommendations from organizations like the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources that encourage regional seafood consumption to support sustainable fisheries.

What really stands out is the process behind the food. Nothing feels frozen and forgotten. Fish is cleaned daily, fry oil is filtered regularly, and sauces are mixed in-house. That attention to detail shows up on the plate. During one visit, a nearby table asked for grilled fish instead of fried, and the kitchen accommodated without hesitation, a small thing that signals confidence and experience rather than rigid rules.

Charleston is packed with seafood restaurants, many of them excellent, but not all aim for the same audience. Some chase white-tablecloth dining; others go full tourist mode. This place lands comfortably in the middle, serving residents, workers, and visitors who care more about flavor than frills. Industry research from the National Restaurant Association notes that casual dining remains the most frequented restaurant category in coastal cities, largely because diners value approachability and reliable quality. This spot fits that pattern perfectly.

Reviews often mention friendly service and fair pricing, which matters more than ever as food costs rise nationwide. While menu prices have adjusted slightly over the years, portions haven’t shrunk, and that balance builds trust. One regular I chatted with said he’s been eating here for nearly a decade and orders the same shrimp platter every time because it never lets him down. That kind of loyalty says more than any marketing pitch.

There are limitations worth mentioning. Seating can feel tight during peak dinner hours, and parking along Folly Road requires a little patience. The menu focuses heavily on fried options, so diners looking for extensive grilled or vegetarian choices may find fewer selections. Still, those gaps are easy to forgive when the core offering is executed so well.

What keeps people coming back is the sense that nothing is forced. The food reflects the coast, the staff knows the regulars, and the overall experience feels honest. In a city overflowing with dining options, this seafood house proves that doing the basics right, day after day, is still the most reliable recipe for success.

  • As a group visiting from the north, we had no real experience with how to go about ordering food at a place like this, but the lady at the counter was extremely nice and explained the whole operation. I ended up with the Scallops PO Boy and the scallops just melted in my mouth. Everything in the case looked extremely fresh and I believe everything they claim about quality on the website. There is limited indoor seating, however it wasn't too smelly from the fish or anything and it was cool on a hot day. Outside they have a small picnic area by a creek that had the most spectacular evening sun view. I highly recommend anyone visiting to check this place out for the fresh and sustainable, casual, and cost effective seafood experience.

  • CudaCo. Seafood House is a must-visit spot for seafood lovers—everything is fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully prepared. The atmosphere strikes a great balance between casual and upscale, with friendly staff who clearly know their seafood. Whether you're ordering oysters, lobster rolls, or one of their daily specials, you can taste the quality in every bite. The raw bar is especially impressive, and the rotating menu keeps things exciting. Highly recommend if you're in the area and craving top-notch seafood!

  • I’ve been drooling over my phone since I came across CudaCo Seafood House a while back. Having grown up in the Florida Keys, I’m definitely spoiled. I finally made the trip from the mountains and this was our first stop. We tried a few things off their menu and everything was *chefs kiss*… we went back two more times. The quality lived up to the hype, the selections over exceeded- fresh live crawdads? Yes please! Multiple oyster selections, a variety of filets! The service was true southern hospitality. We spent a good hour talking to the staff, loaded up our cooler and I’ve been dreaming of going back ever since. Not only do they know what they’re doing with seafood, hugs were shared when we learned they had contributed to some relief work here in Asheville after the flood… support good people that care about others and the earth

  • To the person on Reddit who recommended this gem, BLESS YOU. If you love seafood, this spot is for you. Like, it’s unreal. The fresh seared fish + the mussels with bread so you can dip the perfect spicy curry sauce + the salmon & tuna with coconut rice bowl- all incredible! INCREDIBLE!!!! Not to mention the service. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Giving the best recommendations & the vibes were top tier, imagine “we want you here, please try this!” There was inside and outside seating + easy parking. Will be back, expeditiously.

  • This fish market is one of the best around the Charleston area. The seafood is incredibly fresh and you can pick out your fish right from the case and have it made into a delicious sandwich, or take it home to cook yourself. Everything tastes like it was just caught that morning. The poke bowls are amazing, fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. They’ve also got a great selection of refrigerated items to grab and go. And if you’re dining in, they serve beer and wine, which makes the whole experience even better. Whether you’re stopping by for lunch, picking up dinner, or just browsing their daily catch, Cudaco never disappoints. Friendly staff, top-quality seafood, and an easy coastal vibe. Everything you want in a local fish market.

  • This is my favorite kind of place, authentic, focused on one kind of food and unique. A fish market that cooks up whatever is fresh to eat there or at tables set behind the store and parking lot. We tried a lot, loved it all…the fresh catch beautifully pan seared and with a delish Asian slaw, the whitefish salad served with fresh veggie slices, the peeler shrimp and the calamari with remoulade sauce. The kind of place you tell people who love fish about

  • First, came the oysters, fresh from the cold, deep waters. Each pearlescent half-shell held a morsel of briny, sweet ocean, to be slurped down with a whisper of lemon and a tiny burst of mignonette. The cool, crisp wine cut through the minerality, brightening the palate for the feast to come. Next, a crab cake arrived, golden and perfectly seared. It was less cake and more a monument to crab—pure, sweet lump meat, held together by the barest hint of seasoning and a delicate crust. With a fork, the exterior gave way to a warm, moist interior, each flaky strand of crab tasting of summer and salt. The prosecco’s light fruitiness and high acidity were the perfect foil for the rich, buttery crab, cleansing the palate with every sip. The final act was a fish fry, a glorious mound of crispy, fried fish. The flaky, tender whitefish, encased in a light and crunchy batter, was piping hot and utterly satisfying. A squeeze of lemon and a dash of tartar sauce completed the plate. The bubbles of the prosecco, still dancing on the tongue, lifted the richness of the fried food, making each bite feel as fresh as the first. It was a meal of simple pleasures, executed with flawless perfection, and elevated by the celebratory sparkle of the wine.
